Chapter 10

Jazmine had been to two press parties, but none had been as impressive as this one! It was being held at the Grand Mariner Hotel that was rumored to be owned by Taylor, Inc. The vast ballroom glittered with dazzling lights from the crystal chandeliers suspended from the high ceiling. A bar had been set up at one corner of the room and bartenders clad in white shirts and black pants with bowties at their necks were busy serving drinks to the patrons milling around. Waiters circled the room with trays suspended, skillfully managing to avoid the guests as they mingled. Thick, rust colored carpet made walking appear like stepping on soft blankets and the music coming from speakers all around the room set the perfect ambience. Invitations had been sent out and accepted by every major newspaper in town and reporters were dazzled by the guests who had turned up for the function.

Jazmine was wearing aquamarine, the dress brand new and left her arm and shoulders bare while shimmering down to her ankles in an explosion of color! Her thick dark hair was loose around her face, caught up at one side by jeweled pins. She had not heard from Connor even though he was supposed to have been back from his trip last night, but she was determined not to let it bother her. She gripped her brother’s arm as they made their way further into the room. She looked around for a familiar face and saw both Shelby and Eric standing with a group from Taylor, Inc. and made her way over to them. Jason already knew Shelby and Eric, so Jazmine introduced him to the rest of the people standing there.

“You look different,” Jazmine murmured as she stared at Shelby. The girl was wearing a russet brown pantsuit that hugged her slender curves lovingly and looked great against her skin. Her dark red hair was brushed ruthlessly back from her face and drifted over her left side in a glossy fat curl that went just past her waist. She had on makeup which was surprising since she hated putting it on and was wearing lipstick. “Who are you? And what have you done with Shelby?”

Shelby shrugged uncomfortably. “Please don’t make a big deal out of it. I just thought I would dress up for a change.”

“Honey, you look amazing!” Jazmine murmured. “You should do it more often.”

“Not going to happen,” she muttered, her eyes going around the room. “Have you seen so many celebrities in one place?”

“Darling, I am basking in it.” Eric said in satisfaction. “I am hoping that I will find someone to catch my interest in this sea of famous faces.” With that, he went on his way to mingle.

“Are you nervous?” Shelby asked her.

“About what?”

“You are going to make a statement about the upcoming magazine and have cameras pointed at you from every direction,” Shelby reminded her.

“Thanks for ruining my night,” Jazmine said dryly. “I have not seen Connor around. I am hoping he will be the one to make the statements.
